Freeing Animals: Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Environmentalism and Ecological Challenges

Buddhist environmentalism in its varieties across the world is an integral part of global environmental discourse centered on exploring new planetary ethics for sustainable futures. While recognizing role movements, author this article proposes that observable strength local and advocacy grounded interdependence, even as, canonically, Buddhism does not offer what commonly recognized by scientists scholars as traditional ecological knowledge or religious ecology. To substantiate this, offers a textual assessment canon’s lack systematic knowledge, case study how freeing domestic animals advocating vegetarianism among contemporary Tibetan Buddhists China, inclusive non-Tibetan converts, mainly benefits human wellbeing at same time entangled social affairs have little to do with Plateau urban China.
